What is your current attitude to your business as an owner or as an employee?

Are you just on earth to get by and pay bills?

Are you just living out your life with no passion for your job or your business?

Are you operating your business from a comfort zone – no risk taking, no growth?

The C.O.O. of The Ritz Carlton Hotel Group Horst Schultze says,

“You are nothing unless it comes from the heart. Passion, caring, looking to creative excellence. If you perform functions only and go to work only to do processes, then you are effectively retired. And it scares me – most people I see by age 28, are retired. If you go to work only to fulfill the processes and functions, you are a machine. You have to bring passion and commitment…”

Well, franchising may be for you .You can turn your business into a franchise where other people help you to grow.

Franchising in Australia
Franchising in Australia has come of age – just read these statistics.

Franchising now provides the equivalent to 14% of the National GDP, which equates to 50% of small business turnover of Australia, yet from only 5% of small business outlets.

Ask yourself three questions:

1. Is your business suitable to franchising?
2. Are you suitable to franchising?
3. Can I take my business overseas with franchising?

Be careful of the franchising mindsets that come from ignorance and small thinking of traditional business thinking. Because someone doesn’t understand franchising or doesn't keep up to date with the growth and success of technology or new methods of doing business, they easily criticise franchising.

Franchising provides:
•An owner/operator who has skin in the game
•The opportunity to own or work in a business where you can enjoy doing someone you have a passion and interest in doing
•Better Customer Service
•A system that is proven
•An established brand or be part of the team who are building a brand
•Standards and operations to start a business
•Marketing support
•Training
•Peer support.

What are the initial steps to franchise your business?

1. Look at Franchise Council of Australia website.
2. Buy the Franchising Magazine from a newsagent. (Read as much as possible on the subject.)
3. Ask questions from people who know about franchising. (Avoid the people who think they know, but don’t know).
4. Talk to some one who has been successful in franchising.
5. Start and act on the advice.

Investment is required to set your business up for franchising. You cannot afford to get the documentation wrong or have inadequate systems.

The investment will pay for itself in selling franchises.

You cannot say franchising is not for you without checking it out. Start, decide and then act – then you will never die wondering.
