Even with the growing popularity of television, computer games and online surfing, reading books remains to be a favorite pastime for many. A growing number of readers are choosing to begin using audio books, an audio recording of a book. If you are generally reluctant to consider audiobooks, take into consideration the advantages of “reading with your ears,” which can make enjoying a book more simple and engaging.

1. Audiobooks are economical. It is easy to overlook the money-saving value of audio books. Downloading an audio book or buying one on Compact disc, especially with a subscription plan, is often more economical than purchasing a hardcover -- and often even a soft cover book.. If you take advantage of a promotion, you may even be able to get two or more audio books for the cost of one hardcover book.

2. Purchase or rent. If you are accustomed to borrowing books from the library as an alternative to buying them, you can continue to do so with audiobooks since a number of vendors provide audiobook rental programs.

3. Free up space (and weight). Many of us own large collections of books in our homes. A number of these books we might not wish to display or never plan to read again. Consequently, we banish them to cardboard boxes and exile them to the basement or closet where they collect dust and simply occupy space. Regardless of whether your audiobook collection includes 3 or 300 titles, it will only ever take up a mere few square inches, the size of your digital media player (and a full ipod weighs no more than an empty one!) Switching over to audio books means that you can begin using the space in your home, briefcase or handbag more economically.

4. Avoid eye strain. Devoted readers know that prolonged periods of time spent reading may lead to eye strain. With audiobooks, you can “read with your ears” for many hours and you can have your eyes open or closed as you listen -- they'll never end up fatigued.

5. Read just about anywhere. Audio books are significantly simpler to enjoy on the run. You are able to listen to a book as you walk to work or while you are on the exercise bike -- free of having to be concerned about holding the book, flipping pages or continually losing your place as you attempt to accomplish two tasks at a time.

6. A new dimension to reading. Professional audio book narrators will frequently perform with a variety of voices and accents as they read aloud the lines of different characters in a book. This adds a new new dimension to the reading experience, helping to bring to life the characters and events while you read, making reading a more immersive experience. Many professional audio book narrators draw from a theater background, permitting them to masterfully perform a character’s southern twang or Brooklyn accent.

7. Read together. Audiobooks make sharing a book with others easier. If both you and your partner or kid want to read the identical book, there is no need for one to wait around until the other completes reading it. You can listen to it together in the car during a road trip or on your home stereo as you spend genuine quality time together.
