Step by Step Procedures

The first step is to disconnect and disassembling the motherboard from the console. Open the box and take the motherboard slowly and flip it over carefully. Underneath the motherboard are two metal clamps that make out an X shape. These clamps clasp the heat sinks in the right place so that movements of the motherboard are prevented during operation. However, these clamps are also the one that cause the motherboard to warp which can result in many problems such as RROD errors. With the use of the screwdriver, carefully remove the appendages of the X-clamp by unhooking them. Once removed, carefully detach the heatsinks. Use a small wrench in removing the bolts that hold the heatsinks and then see if there are thermal compounds in it. If you see some carbon-like substance or dirt on it slowly scratch it with the use of an old credit card. Knives, for example, are not advisable because they can cause scrapes which can damage the motherboard even more. If ever there are still some thermal compounds left that are too hard to scrape use some cotton buds dipped in alcohol to brush off the remnants. When you have cleaned it cut a small piece of the card and scrape off more thermal compounds that can be found on the GPU and CPU.

Once you are done with cleaning carefully put back together all the detached part and you can use electrical tape on corners before screwing the board of the console. Sometimes there are exposed or entangled electrical wiring which can also cause problems so check every part of the boards before assembling back the console. In case when the motherboard cannot fit together because of warping try to use other screws to make it fit.
